Abstract :
Gifted students are usually described as curious, smart, motivated, and focused on success. However, there is still no certain answer regarding why students in this group are more successful. In this sense the purpose of this study was to investigate gifted students’ cognitive forethoughts about mathematical problems in a detailed way. We set ten problem solving sessions with three gifted 10th grade students. In the light of analysis of the data, secondary gifted students were able to remember the whole context about the similar problems that they previously faced. Also these students were able to make detailed descriptions about previous problems. When they met with mathematical problems which have not previously experienced sometimes they couldn’t generate a solution. On the other hand when they generate a solution, generally they offered more than one solution for these new problems.
