Perceived Self-efficacy of Pre-service Teachers in Using Social Networks and the İnternet for Educational Purposes
Abstract :
The basic purpose of this study is to determine the pre-service teachers perceived self-efficacy in using social networks and the Internet for educational purposes. Descriptive survey model was used in the study. The study has been put into practice with the participation of 776 pre-service teachers studying at Uludağ University Faculty of Education during 2014-2015 academic year. “Educational Internet Use Self-efficacy Scale” and “Educational Social Network Use Self-efficacy Scale” were used as data collection tools. Frequency, percentage, t test, one way analysis of variance and correlation tests were utilized for analysing the data. The findings of the study did not present significant differences between the pre-service teachers’ educational Internet and social networking self-efficacy perceptions and their gender and grades. However, there were statistically significant differences between pre-service teachers’ educational Internet and social networking self-efficacy perceptions and the departments they study at. Additionally, a low-level positive and significant correlation was found between the time the pre-service teachers spend on the Internet and social network sites and educational Internet and social networking self-efficacy perceptions.
