مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - Determination of the opinions and evaluations of the coaches about the Olympic Games

Abstract :

The objective of this study is to determine the opinions and evaluations as to the Olympic Games of the trainers working in branches of Olympic games. To this end, a 25-item questionnaire was applied to 101 trainers working in branches of Olympic games within Bursa province. The participants have indicated that they know the meaning of Olympic rings, are able to explain all kinds of information as regards the Olympics to their athletes and explain the concept of Olympism in details in line with the results of the questionnaire. The majority of participants also stated that Turkey has sufficient experience for organizing the Olympics and believed that one day Olympics would be held in Istanbul while they think that Istanbul is not adequate in terms of having Olympic facilities to be qualified for the Olympics. In addition, most of the participants thought that Turkish National Olympic Committee (TNOC) did not work efficiently while sports federations also did not carry out sufficient infrastructure works. Moreover, the necessity of producing stronger sports policies prior works for Olympic Games in our country was emphasized by the participants at the highest level (80,2%)., Differences of gender and level of education were also evaluated in the study. It is found that the permanent sports policies and application of the legal regulations urgently in our country are a great necessity in terms of the preparations for the Olympic Games in line with the study findings. However, it is also important for the Turkish National Olympic Committee (TNOC) and sports federations to conduct their work in a stronger and more concrete manner. Moreover, provision of Olympic information in each and every term of the academic period beginning from the primary school and particularly implementation of the subjects of Olympic and Olympism in educational programs of institutions providing education for trainers in a more effective way will affect the attitudes and behaviors on these issues more positively.
