Molecular Detection of Cystic Echinococcosis in a Three Month Old Lamb
Abstract :
In this article, Echinococcus granulosus sensu stricto (G1-G3 cluster) infection was reported in a three-month-old lamb in Kıbrısçık county of Bolu. Liver of the dead lamb which has been sent to our laboratory was macroscopically examined, and two foci with white color were diagnosed in sizes of 1.5 X 1.2 mm and 3.6 X 1.6 mm, respectively. These two foci were dissected from liver, and DNA extraction was performed. 254 bp region of mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene from acquired genomic DNA was amplified, and source of cyst was detected as E. granulosus s.s. As a result, we reveal that cluster of E.granulosus can be determined even in very small cysts by PCR.
