Abstract :
In this study, the correlation between somatic cell counts and total mesophilic aerobic bacteria counts, some breeding attributes in milk of hair goats were investigated. For this purpose, a total of 37 raw milk samples obtained from hair goats, in which were determined their age and number of lactation were determined. The samples were analyzed by direct microscopic technique for determining somatic cell count. For microbiological analyses in milks, counts of total mesophilic aerobic bacteria, coliforms, E. coli and Staphylococcus-Micrococcus were determined. The minimum, maximum and average somatic cell counts in samples were found to be 78.000 cell/mL, 492.000 cell/mL and 297.459±78.733 cell/mL, respectively. In 36 samples (97.3%), somatic cell count was greater than100.000 cell/mL. In six samples (16.22%), somatic cell count was between 100.000-250.000 cell/mL, in 30 samples (81.08%) was between 250.000-500.000 cell/mL, and no samples were found containing somatic cells more than 500.000 cell/mL. The average counts of total mesophilic aerobic bacteria, coliforms and Staphylococcus-Micrococcus were determined as 2.15x10^8±1.12x10^9 cfu/mL, 1.92x10^6±7.86x10^6 cfu/mL, 4.08x10² ±1.11x10³ cfu/mL, respectively. E. coli was found only in two of the samples (5.4%). Statistically, correlation between somatic cell counts and counts of total mesophilic aerobic bacteria, age, number of lactation were not found significant (P 0.05). As a result, it is speculated that somatic cell count is relatively high in goat milk because of unhygienic milking procedures, or animals may have problems related to udder health.
