Morphometric and Molecular Analysis of Fasciola hepatica

Abstract
This study was planned for the aim of performing a morphological and morphometric analysis of adult Fasciola spp. and comparing those with results of molecular analysis. Twenty adult Fasciola spp. samples obtained from 20 different cattle after slaughtering were included in the study. Morphometric analysis of parasites was performed using 7 different parameters under stereo microscope. For the molecular analysis, the mt-CO1 gene region was amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) following the gDNA isolation, subsequently for the accurate species identification polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis was conducted using Alul enzyme. All adult parasites had similar measurements and also they were detected as F. hepatica. In this study, morphometric and molecular differantiation of F.hepatica has been highlighted.
