Abstract :
A case of hydroamnion was described in a 2.5 years old holstein heifer, with the history of no parturition symptoms, 295 days after the insemination the pregnancy time was over and partrution did not ocur. During the inspection, there was an equal enlargement in the right and left abdomen, a pear shape was determined in the heifer at the behind look. Dyspnoea, constrained walking and constipation was seen in the animal. It was determined that the cervix was not dilated, the rectum was tightened and the uterus was stretched during the clinical examination. The placentomes and the fetus could not be palpated because of the stretched uterus during the rectal examination. For induction of parturition PGF2α treatment was conducted and 5 dose of 500 mcg cloprostenol was usedintramuscularly with 12 hours intervals. The patrurition began 5 days after the first cloprostenol injection, the fetal fluids emptied but the fetal delivery did not ocur. The vaginal examination showed that two fingers passed the cervix and the fetus could not enter the pelvic channel. Caesarean section was performed. Placenta was normal, fetus was not alife and putrefication did not begin. There was an ancylosis in the fore and hindlimbs of the fetus. 50 IU oxytocin was injected both intramuscularily and subcutaneusly. It was concluded that, for beginning the parturition and delivery of the fetus in the hydroamnion cases, PGF2α injections alonely should not be effective, caesarean sections should be necessary.
