Abstract :
This research was carried out to determine the effects of different light sources (halogen bulb, LED bulb and incandescent bulb) on growth period performance traits of Japanese quails. In this research, 165 sexually mixed two weeks old birds were randomly allocated to each experiment group as five replication (3 x 5). Groups were placed to the three similar rooms in which ventilation, temperature and light schedule can be controlled.Treatment groups were designed with using incandesent lamps, LED bulbs and halogen bulbs which each gives yellow colour. Feed and water were provided as ad libitum during six weeks. In the study, the average live weight at six weeks were found as 185,80,173,22 and 176,80 g for halogen, LED and incandescent bulb groups, respectively and differences between bulb groups were found statistically significant (P 0,01).The effect of light source on average daily live weight gain was found nonsignificant in the third, fourth and fifth weeks. However, the effect of light source on feed consumption was found as significant in the fifth and sixth weeks, while the effect of light source on feed conversion ratio was found as significant in the fifth week (P 0,05). It was determined that liveability was found statistically nonsignificant for all light source groups. According to the results of this study, halogen and LED bulbs which are saving energy and have long life than ordinary incandescent bulbs that using as a general lighting material in the hens can be also used in Japanese quail breeding during growing period.
