Abstract :
The effects of dietary supplementation of essential oil mixture (thyme, bay leaf and orange peel) stabilized by two different methods on performance and some blood parameters in Chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar) reared under intensive conditions were investigated in the present study. The partridges (n = 750; 7-day-old) were divided into 3 treatment groups consisting of 50 birds at each of the 5 replicates. The experimental groups were consisted of Control group consuming a mixed feed based on corn-soybean meal, Zeolite Group which added a mixture of vegetable oils impregnated with zeolite at a dose of 200 ppm, and Capsule Group which included a mixture of encapsulated vegetable oil at a basic diet of 200 ppm. All groups were balanced according to initial live weight. Essential oil mixture supplementation had a significant effect on live weight, live weight gain and feed conversion ratio (P 0.05). Feed intake was found similar among the groups (P 0.05). Supplementation essential oil mixture significantly decreased triglyceride level of blood (P 0.05), however high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and vitamin D levels were increased (P 0.05). There was no significant difference among the treatment groups in terms of serum glucose, creatinine, uric acid, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and urea levels (P 0.05). Consequently, the addition of essential oil mixture to the basic diet had a positive effect on the performance and blood parameters of the partridges. However, no significant difference was found between the methods used to provide stability.
