Abstract
The determination of the presence and the prevalence of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae antibodies in broiler and layer sera with ELISA were aimed at the west part of Turkey in this study. The material was consisted of 1060 blood samples that had been randomly collected from 60 poultry houses rearing broiler and layer chickens with no vaccines. Chi-Square test was used for seropositivity ratio comparisons between groups according to provinces on 700broilers from three provinces received. For broilers in three provinces, seropositivity ratio for M. gallisepticum and M.synoviae was found as 26,4% and 60,2%, respectively. Seropositivity ratios of these provinces were showed statistically significant differences (P 0,001). For 360 layers sera in one province, seropositivity ratio for M. gallisepticum and M. synoviae was found as 65,0% and 82,7%, respectively. On the other hand, seropositivity ratios for all sera samples (for both broiler and layer poultry houses) were found as 39,5% and 67,9% for M. gallisepticum and M. synoviae, respectively. It concluded that M. synoviae infection was common in these farms. For further investigations, it was recommended that related tests should be used for detection of mycoplasma negativity and “Mycoplasma Control Programs” should also be formed.
