Abstract :
This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of chrysin and flunixin meglumine on some blood parameters in rats exposed to excess copper. Thirty-six Sprague Dawley male rats were housed in individual cages and randomly divided into six groups; Control, Copper Sulphate (Cu; 500 ppm body weight (BW/day, gavage), Flunixin Meglumine (FM; 2.2 ppm BW/day, intraperitoneal injection (ip)), Chrysin (Chrysin; 50 ppm BW/day, gavage), Copper Sulphate +Flunixin Meglumine (Cu+FM; 500 ppm BW/day of copper sulphate, gavage and 2.2 ppm BW/day of flunixin meglumine, ip) and Copper Sulphate+Chrysin (Cu+Chrysin; 500 ppm BW/day of copper sulphate, gavage and 50 ppm BW/day of chrysin, gavage). Glucose (P 0.05) and cortisol (P 0.01) levels and alanine aminotranferease (ALT; P 0.01) activity in serum of Control, FM, Chrysin, Cu+FM and Cu+Chrysin groups were found significantly lower than those of Cu group. Also, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity in serum of Cu+Chrysin group were found significantly lower than those of Cu group (P 0.05). The significant differences were not observed in high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), total cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, albumin, creatinine, globulin and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels. The present study demonstrated that flunixin meglumine and chrysin provided amelioration in some important blood parameters of rats applied Cu.
