Views of Students about Value and Values Education within the Scope of Social Studies Course
Abstract :
This study aims to depict views of 4, 5, 6, and 7. class students about value and values education within the scope of social studies. Views of 297 students were obtained for this aim and data obtained were analyzed with content analysis. According to the findings; students defined value with 18 different values. While affection, respect, family, friendship, money and diligence were the most common values; aesthetic, reliability, cultural heritage and belief were the values which are used least. Students who stated that 28 values should be taught in the course of social studies said that these values can be taught through field teaching methods in 22 different categories. They depicted the thing they understand from the statement of value by drawing pictures of 23 different values. It was determined that there are similarities and differences between students depiction with picture and writing.
