Adaptation of Environmental Behavior Scale to Turkish

It is a known fact that educational activities are important in terms of the approaches to permanent solutions to the environmental problems. Educating individuals about the environmental consciousness and sensitivity appears to be the most effective way to solve these problems. The purpose of this study is to make adaptation of environmental behavior scale which was developed by Goldman, Yavetz, and Pe er (2006). In order to determine the reliability and validity the scale was administrated 208 science and technology teachers. The findings related to construct validity of the scale was provided as a result of factor analysis. Its appropriateness to Turkish culture was tested through confirmatory factor analysis (DFA). The first dimension of the scale is person’s economic benefit of resource conservation activities, the second dimension is environmentally-conscious consumers, the third dimension is nature and leisure activities related to the fourth dimension which is recycling efforts, the fifth dimension is responsible citizenship and the sixth dimension is environmental activism. Scale consists of 20 items. Cronbach s alpha reliability coefficient was calculated as .85 for the total scale, .68 for first dimension, .66 for second dimension, .70 for third dimension, .63 for fourth dimension, .68 for fifth dimension and for environmental activism dimension correlation was calculated r=.57; p .01 between two items. The results obtained showed that the scale can be used in Turkey
