Title Of Article :
The Effect of Teaching Symmetry by Computer Animations and Activities at 7th Grade Mathematics Lesson to Academic Achievement
Abstract :
Teaching symmetry is of great importance. In school mathematics, students are expected not only to explain the characteristics of geometrical shapes, but also to create tessellation by using one or more symmetry types on these shapes or to cover a surface by the shapes repeating with no empty space and not tessellation on each other by using one or a few of them. The children make sense of life and mathematics by studying on symmetry and its characteristics. In this study, it is researched to see whether there is an impact of teaching different symmetry types by using pattern models aided by computer. The symmetry subject is explained by using original drawings that belong to Mine AKTAŞ, Selcenay AKTAŞ and Burcu AKTAŞ with computer aided samples. According to the findings, it is observed that the teaching of symmetry with the use of computer animations and activities has increased students academic success.
