Abstract
The aim is to determine reading motivation levels of high school 5 and 6th grade students and the correlation of this level with their academic motivations and examine this correlation in terms of various variables. The population of the study consisted of 198 students receiving education at high school 5 and 6th grades in the school year of 2015-2016. The data were collected by using “Reading Motivation Scale for Texts” developed by İleri (Aydemir) and Öztürk (2013) and “Academic Motivation Scale for Learning Biology” developed by Aydın, Yerdelen, Yalmancı, and Göksu (2014). Since “Academic Motivation Scale for Learning Biology” was used for Turkish lesson, a pilot study had been conducted concerning this scale with a group similar to the sample. According to the results, the students had reading motivations and academic motivations at positive level.
