Abstract :
This study is a survey model and it aims to investigate the invariance state of the students’ who participated in PISA-2012 maths test, affective characteristics towards maths according to the gender. The target population of the study is 15-year-old Turkish students in the year 2012. The sample of the study consists of 1598 students who took form B from 4848 15-year-old students in 170 schools randomly chosen by classifying PISA Turkey practices as regions and school types. Since the purpose of the study is to confirm the invariance of the interest towards mathematics, anxiety for maths, self- perception towards maths and self-efficacy dimensions according to the gender, Multi-Group Confirmatory Factor Analyses (MG-CFA) were used in the data analysis. The analyses were carried by means of SPSS program and software language R. Except for maths self- efficacy variable, it is found that for all the other variables, that is in maths anxiety, interest towards maths and maths self-perception the same structure is existing formally both for boys and girls, and these implicit variables are invariant for the groups. In conclusion, for maths anxiety and interest towards maths dimensions both groups, boys and girls, answered in the same way and it would be meaningful to compare the scores of the groups.
