Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to compare students opinions on problem-based collaborative learning and problem-based individual learning method in an online learning environment. The study was conducted within an eight-week extracurricular course at a state university in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. Thirty vocational college students participated in the study. Grounded theory was used as data analysis method in the study. Data were collected with interviews and reflective reports. The interviews were held at four different times with a total of 24 students. Additionally, student reflections were collected from 30 students at the end of the course. Data analyzes were made with open coding, axial coding and selective coding. As a result of the research, it was determined that there are three main factors that affect the participation of the students in the collaborative learning method and the individual learning method. These variables are from inside out; personal approaches, changes in student views, and attributes related to course environment. It has been determined that each of these variables directly or indirectly affects its sublayer.
