Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to be evaluated of comprehension works that primary school teacher candidates prepared for texts whose levels are appropriate for fifth grade in primary education. In the research that was conducted on 100 primary school teacher candidates who are in four different universities, three texts that consist of a narrative, an informative and a poem were given to teacher candidates and they were asked to explain in writing how to do preparation and comprehension works for each text whose level is appropriate for fifth grade. Categorical content analysis was performed on data gathered. According to findings obtained, the range of the activities, which teacher candidates wrote as preparation study for three texts, is as below: Preliminary preparation (46), activation of foreknowledge (107), study with key words (37), to recognize and guess the text (58), to set an aim (0), to determine sort, method and technique (4). The range of the activities, which teacher candidates prepared as comprehension work, is as below: Visual reading (126), listening (50), reading (323), studying with unknown words (67), examining the text (179), improving vocabulary (37). While the average of activities related to preparation stage per a student is 2.52, the average of comprehension activities is 7.82. The average of the activities prepared according to kind of text per a student is 3.35 at informative text, 3.50 at narrative text, 3.49 at poem. In the study, it is determined that first education students prepared more activities with respect to second education students and there is no significant difference in number of the activities prepared according to sex.
