Abstract :
Tourist guides have a wide variety of roles, such as informants, commentator, interpreters, consultants and intermediaries, in the process of contact with the culture in which the tourists are foreigners. With these roles, guides are directly influential in the positive or negative consequence of the tourist experience. The role of lead roles is key to the success of all roles of the directors. Because leadership involves processes of dominance in groups. At this point, it is possible to say that the leadership roles of tour guides are an important factor in achieving the quality of service of tourists and ultimately reaching the targeted aims of tourism. In this study, the relationship between leadership orientation and demographic characteristics was examined in addition to the determination of leadership orientation of tour guides. The data obtained with the questionnaires applied to tourist guides were evaluated through statistical analyzes. As a result of the research, it has emerged that tourist guides generally adopt the task oriented leadership behaviors. In addition, it has been determined that the change behavior, which requires to keep the task or the relations in the foreground according to the necessity of circumstances, is the least preferred leadership behavior by the guides.
