Abstract
The subject of General average is regulated between the articles 1275-1285 in the Turkish Commercial Code nr.6102. General average can be defined as the undertake of the cost and the sacrifice, which were made knowingly and willingly in a proportional way in order to protect the ship and the shipload of a common voyage from a common danger in the case, where the ship and the shipload is wholly or partially saved. In terms of maritime trade this burden sharing is known as “despatch”. In this article the amendments made by the Turkish Commercial Code nr.6102 on the matter of general average will be mentioned.
