A Consideration of Citizenship and The Right to Stand for Election
Abstract :
In the idea of the modern state, relation between governor-governed in the nation-state involves rights of the governed. In addition to this, this relation contains the right of the assignation of governors. Political rights have a vital role in the assignation of governors and also the supervision of political decisions. Political rights which are sine qua non conditions of the democracy, eliminate social and economic discriminations. Political rights are also evaluated as a right of citizenship in the nation-state. Nowadays, process of the globalization has caused separation between citizenship and the nation-state. The process of the globalization has lead to think citizenship away from nation-state. Democracies create opportunities for every person to change governors and public policies. However in this situation, every person means citizens and adults who are over the significant age. This context interests content of the “demos”. As a rule, all adult citizens have a right to vote and a right to be elected for organs which are formed by elections in democracies. In addition to citizenship, age limit is another criterion of the political rights. In this context, especially the age of candidacy is emphasized.
