Abstract :

The purpose of this study is to discover if there are various differences between genders in respect to reading skill as well as reasons for them based on the articles published in Turkey. As a result of the study where method of examining the documents is employed, it is discovered that the results are mainly in favor of girls in respect to aspects such as reading comprehension skill. It has been discovered in this study that several papers concluding differences related to sex variable do not explain the reasons for the situation in favor of girls or boys or they only refer to similar publications related to reading skill. It has also been concluded that some papers point out that females’ reading skill displays more positive tendency than the males in various aspects because of reasons such as spending more time at home than males. At the end of the study it has been stated that experimental studies should be conducted in respect to gender variable.
