WRITING SKILLS OF HIGH SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN TERMS OF COHERENCE AND CONSISTENCY
Abstract :
The aim of this study is determine the level of using coherence elements and consistency on the written expressions of high school and university students. Accordance with this purpose 40 high school students in grades 1 and 3 and 40 university students in grades 1 and 3 selected as a sample. Students were given three sentence introductory paragraph and were asked to write a text of this paragraph. Levels of coherence elements and consistency of the text written by students have been identified. Determining the levels of coherence and consistency in students writing, “The Scale for Evaluating Cohesion Level” and “The Scale for Evaluating Coherence in Story” which prepared under doctoral thesis by Coskun (2005) was used. Findings on the level of coherence of students’ writing practices, frequency (f) and percentage (%) analyzes were used and in the comparison of consistency of students’ writing practices, by the different variables, t-test and ANOVA was used.
