Abstract
In modern Turkic languages there two words özen and özek used wtih the meaning “valley, passage”. Although the Word özen is widespread, in Antolian dialects, Khakas, Yakut and New Uigur, the word özek is used with the same meaning. The words özen and özek are also found in Chuvash with the forms vasan and varak. Being a l/r language, the Chuvash form of the word should be varak and the vasan form should be a borrowing form some other Turkic language. Chuvash Word varak is derrived from the stem var with the dimminutive +AK.
