  • Abstract
The word ahçik used in Anatolian dialects is known to be of Armenian origin in some written and oral sources. However, this word is likely to stem from Turkish. In this study, the word, ahçik, and its various forms have been examined from the perspective of old and modern Turkish sources. Our data suggested that it may be related to aga / aka / eke in Turkish. The fact that the word ahçik is represented by similar sounds in other Altaic languages indicates Altaic characteristics. It is more likely that this word has been reborrowed from Armenian and used in specific contexts in Turkey because it is especially used in the Eastern Anatolian Turkish dialects with the meaning of ‘Armenian girl’.
