THE TRADITION OF “KEMENÇECİLİK” AT GİRESUN REGION AND THE FUNCTIONS OF THE FOLK SONGS COMING OUT AT THIS CONTEXT

The tradition of “kemençecilik” at Giresun region of which known as the oldest representative is Tuzcuoğlu born in 1829, is still continuing living strongly. The tradition is grateful to be able to continue compensate to the individual or social needs by accomodating to the sociocultural change for this strong structure.The traditional structures can live if they carry on their functionality by compensating the needs of the individual or society. The traditions fulfilling principal functions is the main factor at being respected by individual or society and carrying on its vitality. In this study, which has been prepared by using profiting by written sources and field research methods, the functional dimension of tradition has been tried to be put out by evaluating the tradition of “kemençecilik” in Giresun region and the functions of the folk songs coming out at this context.
