Abstract :
Travel writing which aims to comprehend and represent the other by taking himself to the center, is issued as an independent literary genre. The relationship between the other literary genres for traveling literature is also tried to define in the context of family similarity. The reasons which create the traveling writing as an independent genre and the principles which provide the maintenance of this genre are essayed to be illuminated by a diachronic analyze. After defined the original principles of the genre, Téophile Gautier’s İstanbul and Ahmet Haşim’s Frankfurt Seyahatnamesi are examined according to a comparative approach. It is objected to determine the reasons why Gautier and Haşim wrote these works and exemplify how these two works obeyed to the genres original principles by comparating two writers’ works.
