  • Abstract
    Mahmûd bin Mustafa is the son of Celâl-zâde Mustafa one of the famous grandveziers of XVIth century. Mahmûd Efendi who served at prestigious positions at times as an officer in the divan-ı hümayun and at others as an officer at imperial accounts office. In the aftermath of his father s death as he was not granted the position that he wanted as nişancı as he was not much paid attention, he isolated himself from public bureaucracy. Following to Murad III s coming to throne Mahmûd Efendi returned to the ephere of politics and art and he passed away in the reign of Mehmet III after 1596. Mahmûd Efendi has a collected Diwan and a mixture of manzum and mensur styles titled Gencîne-i Letâif. Indeed no info has been found in the directories of peots or in other biographic records on the author This work gives the reader info on the life, works and literary personality of the poet followed by the appraisal poems of the author for the three cities in his celebrated Diwan.
