Abstract :
The aim of this study is to determine the socio-economic status of pre-service teachers enrolled at the department of Social Sciences Education at Celal Bayar University as well as to detemine their reasons for being in this department and their levels of satisfaction with their choice. To this end, in this study, which is a descriptive one, a questionnaire which consists of seventeen items were applied to freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior students studying at the department of Social Sciences Education at the Faculty of Education, Demirci. The results of the questionnaire were evaluated in tables by using percentages and frequency. 160 preservice teachers participated in the questionnare, and they were selected among the 489 pre-service teachers who are currently enrolled at the department of Social Sciences Education. It was determined that preservice teachers come from families with low-income levels, that this field is not their first choice, that the level of education of their parents is low, that most of them are from urban origins, that they have the anxiety of unemployment and that they don’t have organized study habits.
