An investigation on a group of pharmacists’ perceptions of professional committment
Abstract :
In this study, it was aimed to assess relations between the pharmacists professional commitment and some demographic characteristics. Study was done in April 2008 with 57 pharmacists who were at Samsun Field Medicine School and Training Center Commandership for the basic course of reserve officership and was completed with 55 of the pharmacist because of the two pharmacists’ reluctance to be involved in the study. Questionnaire developed by Blau G. was applied to assess the 57 pharmacists’ perception of professional commitment within this study. It has been observed that 81.8 % of 55 pharmacists, aged between 23-34 yearsold, were single, 44.4 % had their own pharmacy and 46.3 % of them have not served as a pharmacist or worked at academic or other foundations since there has been a very short period after their graduation. It was found that the highest dimension of professional commitment of pharmacist was related to “emotional commitment”, while the second highest dimension was normative commitment. Exalting the professional commitment has to be rendered as an institutional policy.
