Abstract :
Endothelium is a multi-functional cluster of cells within the vascular system consisting of a single layer of squamous epithelium. Physiologically, endothelium performs various arrangement and protection functions. However, when these functions are disturbed toward derangement, endothelium also mediates pathological functions with negative effects on the body. Endothelial dysfunction is mediated by several mediators (nitric oxide, endothelins, prostaglandins, angiotensin 2, etc). Endothelial dysfunction implies a state in which mediators function, secretory disturbance is experienced, and some pathological factors are involved. It is suggested that endothelial dysfunction can affect the course of chronic diseases, infl ammation, and atherosclerosis.
