Abstract :
Some sources record a certain Bulgar people of Turkic stock in the Middle Toros region in the South of Anatolia. The question of their origin has led to some debates. This essay shows that they migrated first to Hungary from the Volga Bulgar in the 920’s, and then came to the Southern Anatolia together with a fleet of the Arab administration of Tarsus. After one generation, Byzantine reconquista brought the Toros region under the emperors, and the Bulgars had to withdraw to the mountainous inlands, which is even today called the Bulgar Mountains. These Bulgar Turks seem to have assimilated by Oğuz Turks during the rule of the Karaman principality.
