Title Of Article :
The effects of water stress on evapotranspiration, water use efficiency, yield and quality parameters in watermelon irrigated by drip irrigation
Abstract :
This study was conducted to determine the effects of water stress on evapotranspiration (ET), water use efficiency, yield and quality parameters of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) irrigated by drip irrigation in Canakkale region during 2007 and 2008. For this purpose, six different irrigation treatments (100 % (control), 80%, 60%, 40%, 20% and 0% replenishment of soil water depleted) were experimented. Mean seasonal ET values and mean total irrigation water volumes were determined as 475 mm and 403 mm respectively at control treatment, in which the lack moisture of soil was corresponded completely. With regard to treatments, the yield was found between 7.04 t ha^-1and 56.34 t ha^-1 in the first year and between 13.66 t ha^-1 and 64.82 t ha^-1 in the second year. According to treatments average water use efficiency, average irrigation water use efficiency and average the percentages of irrigation water applied to meet ET were determined between 6.58-12.94 kg m^-3, 7.92-12.51 kg m^-3 (except S0 treatment), and 30-85%, respectively. Mean yield response factor was obtained as 1.328. While quality parameters such as fruit weight, fruit diameter, fruit height and flesh thickness were difference statistically with regard to treatments, pH and the amount of water soluble substances were not difference statistically.
