Title Of Article :
An investigation on the performances of some new Leguminous forage crops cultivars under Mediterranean climatic conditions
Abstract :
In this study, to determine the performances of them leguminous forage crops cultivars under Mediterranean climatic conditions six legume cultivars (Medicago sativa:Daisy ve Resis; Trifolium repens: Nanouk ve Klondike; Trifolium pratense: Rajah; Trifolium hybridum: Ermo) were grown in the experimental fields of Field Crops Department of Agriculture Faculty, Aegean University, between 2001-2003 years. Plant height, gren herbage yield, dry matter content and dry matter yield were tested. As the results of 3 years average of field and laboratory tests it was concluded that legume cultivars showed large variation and some of them could be beneficial in the region according to the agronomic requirements. It was also concluded that Daisy cv. of alfalfa and Klondike cv. of white clover and Rajah cultivar of red clover have also shown similar performances. Ermo cv. of alsike clover needed further experimantation. It was observed that all of the cultivars could be used successfully in short or long term artificial pasture establishments.
