مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - Analysis of tomato farmers attitudes and behaviors towards irrigation and drought in Izmir province

Abstract :

After the drought experienced in the last period, public debate was initiated about the effects of drought on agriculture and different opinions were put forward. Different ideas have been developed about losses in agriculture which was caused from the drought, drought to experience in the future period and measures should be taken about water use. Also effects of drought have been put forward by different institutions with different data. But the extent and effects of the drought should be determined through the scientific studies and results should be forwarded to the relevant sections. In this study, effects on tomato farmers of meteorological and agricultural drought which experienced in the province of Izmir in 2007-2008 period were analyzed. Data of this research were collected from 86 farmers with survey forms by using proportional sampling method. In the analysis of data, firstly socio-economic characteristics of the farmers were examined, after farmers attitudes and behaviors towards irrigation and drought were analyzed.
