Title Of Article :
The effects of water stress on physiological and morphological parameters of sweet corn
Abstract :
This study was conducted to determine the effects of water stress on evapotranspiration (ET), physiological and morphological parameters of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) irrigated with drip irrigation at Canakkale region during 2007 and 2008 crop growing seasons. For this purpose, six different irrigation treatments (S100, S80, S60, S40, S20 ve S0) were experimented. Mean seasonal ET and total irrigation were determined as 453 mm and 381 mm for first and second seasons, respectively at control treatment (S100), in which the lack of soil moisture was corresponded completely. Depending on water stress, evapotranspiration, leaf water content, chlorophyll meter reading, fresh ear yield, leaf area index and biomass amount were statistically affected. The correlations between these parameters were statistically significant. Leaf water content and chlorophyll content can be used to determine water stress as instantaneous.
