Evaluation of Open-Air Shopping Centers in Terms of Design Criteria: Forum Bornova Shopping and Lifestyle Centre

Abstract
In this study it is aimed to examine into the open areas of Forum Bornova Shopping and Lifestyle Centre which is one of the modern shopping centers of Izmir in terms of design criteria and to manifest adequacy of these areas in respect to quantity and quality. As being the first open-air shopping centre in Aegean Region, Forum Bornova reflects a touch of Aegean architecture by a town fiction. The complex which proposes an experience of lifestyle centre beyond a shopping centre is visited by over 12 million visitors per a year. Within this study, activity areas and the usage opportunities, also the program and the equipment elements provided in Forum Bornova Shopping and Lifestyle are evaluated by observations and visual analyses done by the researchers group. As a result, it is determined that the research area is preferred for various activities by different age and income groups besides being an environment of social life that contains the combination of urban space components.
