Title Of Article :
Effects of different shading ratios and covering materials on storage life and quality of sultana seedless grapes
Abstract :
This study was carried out with different shading ratios and covers to examine their effects on table Sultana Seedless grape quality and storage life between 2009 and 2011. Grapevines were covered with 3 different shading nets with different shading ratios at the veraison stage. These grapevines were recovered with three different materials (lifepack, mogul, and transparent polyethylene) at just before harvest maturity. In the first year, the grapes were kept for 90 days and in the second year 120 days under storage -0.5°C. In the second year after 120 days of storage, decay development and decreases in sensory analysis points were observed in grapes with 35% shaded and covered with transparent polyethylene. Total soluble solids content, maturity index and a* colour value were found lower in 55% ve 75% shaded grapes compared to unshaded grapevines. Still, berry removal force and hue angle value in 55% ve 75% of shaded grapes were higher than unshaded grapes. Effects of shading ratios on these parameters decrease or disappear at the end of storage. Consequently, in addition to delaying grapes harvest time by using different shading ratios and covering materials, it was seen that grapes would be stored for further 90 days successfully.
