Analysis of traditional, semi -traditional and modern shopping places: İzmir case
Abstract :
Shape-shifting commerce phenomenon affected by the competitive environment, accelerated the formation of new shopping places and these modern designed shopping places changed shopping habits of communities. In this century people challenge these modern places in which they get around, express longing in the past and dissatisfaction comparing the modern places with traditional ones express from time to time. Within this study, a traditional open air market, a semi - traditional shopping street which is developed over time according to demands and a modern open air shopping centre which is emerged as a result of economic and spatial dynamics were evaluated comparatively. Spatial differences of study areas were observed besides putting forward the level of meeting expectations of users. Following the research on literature, shopping term, spatial transformation of shopping markets and their place in social life are evaluated. Afterwards, as for areas of research, data collection was carried out based on the work of a researcher group and an expert group. As a result of the analysis conducted, spatial and vital assessments are manifested. All information obtained as a result of the analysis, evaluated with an integrated approach and consequently recommendations guiding the planning and design practices are presented.
