Abstract :
White mustard (Sinapis alba L.) is one of t e most important weeds in cerealsin the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). S.alba is often found as winter weed beside of field in Turkey (TR). The aim of this study is to compare germination and phenology of white mustard populations originating from TR (izmir-Bornova) and from TRNC (Turkmenkdy- Gazimagusa). The germinated seeds at different temperatures (5°C, 10°C, 15°C, 20°C, 25°C, 30°C, 35°C) were counted and germination rate was calculated. Those experiments were conducted in petri dishes. One of the TRNC population had highest rate ( 8 8 . 4 0 - 7 4 . 4 0 %) of germination at 5-15°C, while the TR population had the highest germination rate ( 7 8 . 8 0 - 6 6 . 8 0 %) at 15-30°C. The development and phenology of TRNC and TR populations were observed in pot experiments in screen house. Cotyledon and rosette stage, stemelongation, flowering time, fruiting time were observed and compared. In the second experiment, the flowering time of the TRNC population was five weeks before that from TR. The first fruting time in the TRNC population was also four weeks before the TR population . There are probably two different ecotypes of TRNC and TR S. alba. Further investigations are needed to dearify that S. alba ecotype diversity and its implication.
