Abstract
the aim of this study is to determine the effect of adding carvacrol to corn silage on aerobic stability, pH and visual mildew. Carvacrol was added in 0, 200, 400, 800, 1600 ppm doses in corn silage and ensiled for 50 days. At the end of the silage period, dry matter, pH, aerobic stability (CO2 amount) and visual mold of silages were determined. Accordingly, it has been found that carvacrol addition does not affect the dry matter and pH values (except the 1st and 3rd day) of silages, but aerobic stability and visual mouldiness were increased by increasing application of carvacrol. As a result, it has been demonstrated that the most effective application of carvacrol to improve the aerobic stability of corn silage was 1600 ppm, but application of 400 and 800 ppm can also be found effective.
