Abstract
Objective: In this study, the possibilities of clean up the Cd metal of the rough rough cocklebur heavy metal cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium L.) grown on controlled conditions for 6 weeks in soil contaminated with 0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg kg^1 cadmium (Cd), respectively were investigated. Material ve Methods: The rough cocklebur were cultivated for 6 weeks in soil, which was allowed to incubate for 3 weeks in the form of 0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg Cd kg^ 1 as 3CdS04.8H20 in increasing doses. Chlorophyll contents were measured with chlorophyll meter before plants were harvested. Concentrations of Cd, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn were measured in an Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES) by microwave digestion of the plant samples after harvesting with nitric acid (HNO3). Total N and reduced glutathione analysis (GSH) were also performed on plant samples. Results: According to the results of the experiment, levels of chlorophyll (lower leaf: 29.1-25.4 SPAD unit and upper leaf: 31.6-27.3 SPAD unit), cadmium concentration in the plant (0.01-14.3 mg kg-1), heavy metal intake (0.08-74.9 |jg plant^1), reduced glutation (GSH) (235-83 ng mL ^ macro (nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg)) and micro (iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn)) concentrations have shown a decrease. Conclusion: The results showed that rough cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium L.) did not accumulate Cd ( 100 mg kg^1) in shoots and were not suitable for the phytoextraction method.
