  • Abstract
In this study, it is emphasized different effects of Turkish-Ottoman cities to cities locating in the western world. One of these affects is that our old cities have garden city character. For this reason, not only cities were settlement areas where housing units found, but also houses were within gardens where trees and decoration plants found. This characteristics have gained importance regarding planning of cities and establishing new cities increasingly beginning from the mid 20th century. Central business district (CBD) in western cities was found in Turkish cities nearly for 600 years. Because, market was located in the centre of the city and it established central business district together with other urban functions. While cities become crowded, a new section in the same arrangement has been added to the fonner core, and thus various secondary business centers were established. During the course of time, it is understood that central business district changes its location according to varying urban services such as Istanbul.
