Abstract :
Many authors, including Pierre Bourdieu, agreed that his “Algerian period” had a formative role on his sociological thought. These early studies conducted under the conditions of war and colonialism, not only influenced the scientific approach, but also the political positioning of the sociologist. This article shows that a dissolving social structure and the attitudes developed in the face of this dissolution have played a major role, especially in the elaboration of the concept of habitus. One of the imperatives of reflexivity, a key concept for the sociology of Bourdieu, is to evaluate the researcher’s position, along with the whole research universe. This article aims to present how the historical conditions of Bourdieu’s research objects and his position as a researcher, at a time when a sociologist has not developed his own conceptual tools yet, have influenced and contributed to the birth of Bourdieu’s scientific habitus.
