Ayda Yörükan’s Works on Urban Sociology
Abstract :
Today, urban sociology is one of the dynamic subcategories of sociology. Ayda Yörükân did many studies about urban sociology, starting from 1950s. However, most of the urban sociology studies in Turkey have not mentioned about them. Yörükân was a student of Hilmi Ziya Ülken and worked at Sociology Department of Iİstanbul University temporarily. She contributed urban sociology studies of Turkey through working about both urban theories and problems. She had made a definition of city like René Maunier, which is not just limited with the characteristics of West cities and studied ecological, socio-psychological and cultural dimensions of urban life.
