Gezi Park Protests and Alevis as an Oppositional Group
Abstract :
Industrialization, urbanization concomitant with modernization and recently globalization resulted from developments in communication and transportation technologies have brought about some radical changes and transformations in social body. All these become spurring and reviving factors for social movements with its ‘old’ and ‘new’ forms to appear as one of the main actors in political scene. Especially Alevis in Turkey as a heterodox group, forms an oppositional stance in Turkish politics and sometimes comes to picture as the leading social group of a certain social movement like in Gezi Park Protests. This paper aims at describing, clarifying and evaluating the role and place of Alevi oppositional groups in Gezi Park Protests.
