Title Of Article :
Salmonella bacteremia in a patient with aplastic anemia under immunosuppressive treatment
Abstract :
Salmonellosis is still an important health care problem in the world and in our country. Salmonella spp can cause different clinical features like gastroenteritis, typhoid or paratyphoid fever, bacteremia, local organ infections and asymptomatic carriage. Healthy/sensitive people can get the infection from contaminated food, water and plants via the fecal-oral route. It can cause invasive systemic infections and bacteremia in immune compromised patients although it is not very common. As the mortality rate is high in this group (30.6%), the appropriate antibiotic treatment should be started immediately and the antibiotic susceptibility results should be reported. In this paper we report a case of aplastic anemia with Salmonella enterica serotip Typhimurium bacteremia developed during febrile neutropenic episode. The patient was cured with initial empirical antimicrobial therapy without any complication.
