The Evaluation of The Factors Affecting The Levels of Environmental Literacy of Social Science Prospectıve Teachers
Abstract :
It is known that prospective teachers contribute a lot in preventing environmental problems and making future generations more sensitive about it. Prospective teachers need to be environmentally literate in order to realize all these. However, there are many factors affecting prospective teachers being environmentally literate. In this study, the factors that might influence prospective teachers being literate are being analyzed. Survey method was used as a research method. The data was gathered with 190 prospective teachers who are learners in Social Sciences Teacher Education, KTU Fatih Faculty of Education. In this study, 35-question environmental literacy survey was used as data collection tool. The questionnaire is a 5-point likert type. Cronbach Alpha was calculated as .86. After the survey is applied individually to the prospective teachers, the data obtained is analyzed with SPSS 15TM package program. According to the results of the questionnaire, it is seen that what prospective teachers mostly care about environmental event and environmental pollution are global warming and air pollution, and that environmental education include various topics and they know many concepts related to the environmental education but the factors such as the type of school someone graduates from, and the education level of mother or father do not have any influence.
