Abstract :
The aim of this research is to adapt the Perceived School Experiences Scale (Butcher, Amorose, Iachini Ball, 2012) to Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties. The research was conducted on total 327 high school students. The validity and reliability of scale was investigated by test re-test, Cronbach alpha, confirmatory factor analysis and criterion related validity methods. Perceived School Experiences Scale and Educational Stress Scale were used for the criterion related validity. Results confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated that 14 items yielded three factor as original form and that the three-dimensional model was well fit( ( χ²== 1 37,11, sd=70, RMSEA=.054, CFI=.93, GFI=.94, IFI= .94, SRMR=.053 ). Factor loadings ranged from .27 to .75. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was found as .83 for overall scale, .67 for academic press subscale, .67 for academic motivation subscale and .68 school connectedness subscale. In the concurrent validity significant relationships were found between the Perceived School Experiences Scale and Educational Stress Scale (r = -.47). Corrected item-total correlations ranged from .34 to .64. Overall results demonstrated that the Perceived School Experiences Scale can be named as a valid and reliable instrument that could be used in the field of education.
