Peacemaking Method In Resolving Student-To-Student Conflicts: Teachers’ Perspectives
Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers’ perspectives related to peacemaking method implemented as an alternative to traditional discipline approach in resolving student to student conflicts. In the study, “semi-structured interview technique” was used as a method of qualitative research. In the research in which criterion sampling technique was used, interviews were carried out with 5 women, 6 men, and 11 teachers in total. In the analysis of interview data, content analysis technique was used. From the research results, it can be stated that teachers’ perceptions provided evidence for peace education program implemented as a separate program from curriculum was useful at improving peer relationships, enabling student conflicts to resolve constructively-peacefully, and developing peacemaker students’ behaviors, peer relations, and problem solving skills. Notwithstanding, teachers stated that this study did not have a significant effect on academic achievement of peacemaker students.
